S.O.S.2007

Last year was certainly my most demanding to date, with numerous meetings held with the Broads Authority regarding the port marine safety code and the drafting of the Broads Authority bill. Once again British Water Ski have been major partners in the consultation process, they have even called in Barry Odell from retirement to help with the Bill. In fact Barry will also represent BWS on this consultation panel, which will be meeting for the next couple of months. I intend to make a presentation about the Port Safety Code and the Broads Bill at the clubs AGM.

Annual General Meeting 5th April 7:30pm
Brundall Motor Yacht Club

For those of you who cant make the AGM, keep up to date on the web site.

The timetable for implementing the bill is still a long way off. The next stage is a 3 hour debate in the commons to take place on the 17th April. This came about due to 2 local MPs namely Mr Richard Bacon and Mr Keith Simpson, who raised objections on behalf of their constituents. To the best of my knowledge this does not involve Waterskiing or Wakeboarding, but we could still be hijacked in this debate by some carefully placed questions by our critics. Please keep an eye on our local press and web site for updates. The Broads Authority still hope to reach the committee stage before the summer  recess.

I will be working with Barry Odell and the consolation panel to add flesh to the agreement that has been made with the Broads Authority over the next couple of months. The aim of this agreement is to have all points of management agreed before the appointed day comes into power, which basically means the Bill doesn't replace the existing Byelaws until all parties have agreed. This process certainly wont affect this years skiing season, but does mean that all existing Byelaws stand, including 6e and keeping on the surface of the water.

Our club and its members have come along way since the dark ages of the late 80's and we can all hold our heads up high and be proud of our behaviour and achievements to date, but please remember there are always critics out there watching and waiting to remove us from the Broads.

If you have any questions on the bill please contact us.
